SURI YANI AKMAL ROSE. REG. NO 15300500089, Judul skripsi “THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ INTEREST AND THEIR LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN TRANSLATION FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES SUBJECT AT IAIN BATUSANGKAR. Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Institut Agama Islam Negeri IAIN Batusangkar. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah belum diketahuinya hubungan antara Students’ Interest dengan Learning Achievement mereka dalam mata kuliah Translation for Specific Purposes. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat apakah terdapat korelasi antara Students’ Interest dengan Learning Achievement mereka. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode korelasi. Populasi dalam penelitian adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester VI Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Institut Agama Islam Negeri IAIN Batusangkar Tahun Akademik 2018/2019 yang mengambil mata kuliah Translation for Specific Purposes yang berjumlah 40 orang. Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 33 orang yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu angket dan dokumentasi (nilai mahasiswa). Angket digunakan untuk mengetahui Students’ Interest. Angket dirancang berdasarkan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Hidayat. Sebelum dilakukan pengambilan data, angket terlebih dahulu diuji cobakan kepada 7 orang mahasiswa dengan jumlah pernyataan sebanyak 42 item. Dari hasil uji coba ditemukan 11 item valid, 28 item revisi, dan 3 item dibuang, sehingga 39 item itulah yang didistribusikan kepada responden penelitian. Sedangkan dokumentasi (nilai mahasiswa) digunakan untuk mengetahui Learning Achievement mahasiswa setelah mengikuti mata kuliah Translation for Specific Purposes. Hasil analisis data yang dilakukan terhadap 2 variabel dengan teknik korelasi pearson, didapatkan bahwa tidak ada korelasi antara Students’ Interest dan Learning Achievement mahasiswa dengan r-hitung (0.264) lebih kecil dari r-tabel (0.344) dengan tarif signifikan 5% pada derajat bebas (db/df) 31. Dengan demikian Hipotesis nol (H0) diterima Hipotesis alternatif (Ha) ditolak.

The problem of this research is that Students’ face difficulties in translating English text to Indonesian using applications on Translation Course. This research was aimed to know and describe students’ difficulties translating English text to Indonesian Indonesian Using on Translation Course of the Fifth Semester Students of English Teaching Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar Registered in 2024/2025 Academic Year.
This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive design. The technique used in collecting informants is purposive sampling. The informants in this research were five students who had taken the Translation Course and stated that they experienced difficulties in translating from English to Indonesian. In this research, the researcher acted as the key instrument and the interview guide as a supporting instrument. To test the validity of the data, the researcher used a prolong engagement, namely by conducting additional interviews if there was insufficient or doubtful data or information regarding the consent requested by the informant during the first interview. To carry out data analysis, the researcher referred to the theory (Miles and Huberman in Sari, 2022), namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing and data verification. The researcher conducted interviews based on the interview guide, then analyzed the results of the interviews, and drew conclusions and verified the research findings.
The results of this research indicate that there are six difficulties faced by students’ in translating English text to Indonesian Indonesian using applications on Translation Course. The difficulties are: 1) Having difficulties in translating according to the given context, 2) Having limitations in the number of characters, 3) Having less accurate translation results, 4) Having inability to translate files containing images and 5) Having the application require payment for use.

ABSTRACT Muchlis Mayhendra, Reg No. 2130104040, entitled: “Students’ Perception on Using ChatGPT in Translation Course” (A Study of English Department Students of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar). English Teaching Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Islamic State University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The rapid development of artificial intelligence has influenced translation learning in higher education, particularly through the use of AI-based tools such as ChatGPT. However, the increasing use of ChatGPT in translation courses has raised concerns regarding how students perceive its effectiveness and limitations, as well as its impact on students’ critical engagement and independence in the translation process. This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of using ChatGPT as a translation support tool in the Translation for Specific Purposes course. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive design. The informants were students of the English Teaching Department who had taken the Translation for Specific Purposes course and had experience using ChatGPT in translation activities. The informants were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Member checking was applied to ensure data trustworthiness. The findings reveal that students generally have positive perceptions of using ChatGPT in translation learning, particularly in improving accuracy, efficiency, flexibility, vocabulary development, and grammar awareness. However, negative perceptions were also identified, including contextual mismatches in translation results, technical limitations such as internet dependency, and the risk of overreliance that may reduce students’ critical engagement.

No. 2130104054, entitled “Students’ Perceptions of Using ChatGPT in Completing Translation Assignments in the Translation for Specific Purposes Course (A Study of Sixth-Semester Students of the English Education Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar)”, English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The purpose of this research was to investigate students’ perceptions of using ChatGPT in completing translation assignments in the Translation for Specific Purposes course. This research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The population of the study consisted of sixth-semester students of the English Education Department who were enrolled in the Translation for Specific Purposes course. The sample was determined using cluster sampling, in which one class was selected as the research sample. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis. The findings revealed that students demonstrated a balanced perception toward the use of ChatGPT in completing translation assignments. The results showed that ChatGPT was perceived as moderately useful and relatively easy to use, and students frequently used it during the translation process. However, students also showed a high level of awareness regarding the limitations of ChatGPT, particularly related to translation accuracy and contextual understanding. These findings indicate that ChatGPT functioned as a supplementary tool rather than a primary solution in completing translation assignments.

Thesis Title: “READABILITY OF STUDENTS' TRANSLATION IN TRANSLATING LEGAL DOCUMENT FROM ENGLISH TO INDONESIAN” English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Mahmud Yunus State Islamic University Batusangkar. The issue addressed in this study is the low readability of students’ translated texts, especially legal documents. Many students are still unaware of how to produce translations that are easy to read and understand in the target language. As a result, numerous translated texts are difficult to follow and fail to meet the linguistic and cultural norms of the Indonesian language. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe the readability level of students' translations of legal documents in the Translation for Specific Purposes course at the English Education Department of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the academic year 2023/2024. This research used a qualitative approach with content analysis as the method. The primary instrument of this study was the researcher herself, and the main data source was students’ documents. The data were taken from the final exam of the Translation for Specific Purposes course, consisting of eight student-translated legal documents. The data were analyzed using the readability assessment framework developed by Nababan et al., which categorizes translations into three levels: readable, less readable, and unreadable. The results of the analysis showed that out of eight translated legal documents, only one document was categorized as readable, five were considered less readable, and two were found to be unreadable. These results indicate that most students have not yet mastered how to produce translations with high readability. Many of their translations were still influenced by complex sentence structures, inappropriate legal terminology, awkward grammar, and improper punctuation. Even though some parts of the translations appeared natural, they still used terms and expressions that were hard to comprehend for the target readers

The problem in this research is that the translation strategies used by students in translating academic texts. The purpose of this research is to identify translation strategies used by sixth-semester students of the English Teaching Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. This research applied a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The informants were ten sixth-semester students who had taken translation courses, selected through purposive sampling. The researcher was the main instrument, supported by interview guidelines and a voice recorder. Data were collected through interviews, the checking of data trustworthiness using time triangulation, and analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study show that students used six translation strategies, namely literal translation, omission, paraphrasing using related words, machine translation, modulation, and transposition.

RAHMAT JULIADI, NIM 2130104052, judul skripsi “TRANSLATION QUALITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF STUDENTS’ TRANSLATION IN TRANSLATING BOOK TITLE” Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Universitas Islam Negeri Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini adalah banyaknya mahasiswa peserta mata kuliah penerjemahan yang kesulitan menghasilkan terjemahan judul buku yang memenuhi standar kualitas, khususnya dalam hal keakuratan, keberterimaan, dan keterbacaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan tingkat kualitas terjemahan pada terjemahan judul buku karya mahasiswa dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia pada mata kuliah Translation for Specific Purposes di Program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan analisis konten. Instrumen kunci dari penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri, sementara sumber data utama terdiri dari terjemahan judul buku karya mahasiswa dari ujian akhir semester mata kuliah Translation for Specific Purposes. Sebanyak 14 judul buku dikumpulkan untuk dianalisis. Data tersebut dianalisis menggunakan model Penilaian Kualitas Terjemahan (TQA) yang diusulkan oleh Nababan et al. (2012), yang mengevaluasi kualitas terjemahan melalui tiga tingkatan: akurat/berterima/terbaca, kurang akurat/kurang berterima/kurang terbaca, dan tidak akurat/tidak berterima/tidak terbaca. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, kualitas keseluruhan terjemahan mahasiswa ditemukan berada dalam kategori “Kurang Berkualitas”, dengan skor akhir 2.46. Analisis mendalam menunjukkan bahwa meskipun mayoritas terjemahan ditemukan "Akurat" (7 judul) dan "Berterima" (8 judul), sejumlah besar terjemahan juga dinilai "Kurang Akurat" (6 judul) dan "Kurang Berterima" (6 judul). Aspek yang paling menantang adalah keterbacaan, di mana hanya 5 judul yang dianggap "Terbaca" dan 8 judul dinilai "Kurang Terbaca." Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa masih kesulitan menyeimbangkan transfer makna yang setia dari bahasa sumber dengan produksi teks yang alami dan mudah dipahami dalam bahasa sasaran.

No. 2130104022, entitled: “Students' Opinion in Using DeepL Application as a Machine Translation Tool in Translation Class” (A Study of English Department Students of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar). English Teaching Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Islamic State University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. This study is motivated by the need to further understand students' opinions on the benefits and challenges of using DeepL in Translation classes due to its widespread use and its reputation for good accuracy in translating texts. Therefore, this study aims to explore students' opinions on the use of DeepL, including its advantages, constraints, and impact on their translation skills. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive design, with a saturation sampling technique used to determine informants, in which data were collected until reaching the point of saturation, 38 students reported using DeepL. Of these, 4 students were selected as the main informants based on the completeness of the information provided until no new data emerged. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and verification techniques to increase the validity of the research results. The findings reveal there are seven student opinions on the use of the DeepL application: (1) DeepL is considered highly accurate and reliable for academic texts, particularly journal articles and formal documents, (2) DeepL is considered efficient and easy to use, allowing students to complete translation tasks more quickly and conveniently, (3) DeepL helps students understand sentence structure and expand their vocabulary, particularly through the synonym suggestion feature, (4) the PDF translation feature of DeepL is very beneficial to students, allowing them to translate academic materials efficiently, (5) DeepL's translation results are considered less suitable in translating idioms and cultural terms, which often require manual revision to ensure accuracy, (6) while DeepL is effective for formal texts, it produces less natural translations for conversational or creative writing, and (7) DeepL is considered limiting in translating certain languages due to its more limited language availability compared to other translation tools..

FAUZIAH WILLADRI, NIM 2130104023, judul skripsi: "STUDENTS' TRANSLATION ACCEPTABILITY IN TRANSLATING LEGAL DOCUMENT IN TRANSLATION FOR SPESIFIC PURPOSES COURSE" Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Universitas Islam Negeri Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah banyak mahasiswa yang tidak mengetahui bentuk terjemahan yang berterima, sehingga banyak ditemukan kesalahan dalam menerjemahkan sebuah teks sehingga tidak sesuai dengan keberterimaan budaya bahasa sasaran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan dan mendeskripsikan keberterimaan hasil terjemahan mahasiswa ketika menerjemahkan dokumen hukum pada mata kuliah Translation for Specific Purposes di Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan analisis isi. Instrumen kunci dari penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri dan instrumen utama dalam penelitian ini adalah dokumen. Data penelitian ini diambil dari hasil ujian akhir semester mata kuliah Translation for Specific Purpose di UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar tahun ajaran 2023/2024 yang berjumlah 8 dokumen. Data ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori keberterimaan dalam penerjemahan dari Nababan, yang terdiri dari 3 tingkatan, yaitu berterima, kurang berterima, dan tidak berterima. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa dari 8 dokumen hukum yang diterjemahkan oleh para mahasiswa, hanya 1 dokumen yang dinilai berterima, 5 dokumen yang dinilai kurang berterima, dan 2 dokumen yang dinilai tidak berterima. Hal ini dikarenakan masih banyak mahasiswa yang belum memahami terjemahan yang berterima, terbukti dari tingkat keberterimaan hasil terjemahan dokumen hukum mereka yang dinilai kurang berterima, karena hasil terjemahan mereka masih belum sesuai dengan istilah-istilah yang digunakan oleh budaya Indonesia, masih banyak kesalahan tata bahasa, dan juga penggunaan tanda baca. Meskipun beberapa hasil terjemahan terlihat natural, namun masih menggunakan istilah-istilah yang sulit dimengerti oleh pembaca sasaran.

Abstract: The background of this research was that the motivated by the large number of English students who use the U-Dictionary application rather than other translation applications in fifth semester translation learning in the 2022/2023 academic year. This study used qualitative methods. There were six informants for this research, they were fifth semester English students in class A in the 2022/2023 academic year. The results of this study showed that there ware four benefits found from the interview results, including: 1) The benefit in easy to use, 2) The benefit in having many features, 3) The benefit in having many synonyms in each choice of words that are suitable for use, 4) The benefits in better translation results.

ARIF FURQAN, NIM 1930104012, The thesis entitled “AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERROR IN TRANSLATING LEGAL DOCUMENT ON TRANSLATION FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES COURSE” English Teaching Department,Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher training, State Islamic University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The problem of this research is there are many Students’ that commited error in translating legal document namely memorandum of understanding in translation for specific purpose subject. The purpose of this research is to describe types of error found in the Students’ translation in translating legal document on translation for specific purposes course at the UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar academic year 2023/2024. This research used a qualitative with content analysis approach. The key instrument of this research is the researcher himself and the main instrument are document. The data are taken from final exam results of the Translation for Specific Purposes course at the UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the 2023/2024 academic year. There are 26 documents. The data are analyzed based on theory of error from Dulay. In dulay theory Error is categorized into four namely omission, addition, misformation and misordering. Based on result of data analysis researcher found that there are four category of error found in the Students’ translation in translating legal document on translation for specific purposes course. They are misformation error (66,7%), omission error (21,9%), addition error (10,8%), and misordering error (0,6%).

MUHAMMAD KARIM, NIM 1930104040, judul skripsi: ”STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN TRANSLATING ENGLISH TEXT INTO INDONESIAN (A Study of The Sixth Semester Students of English Teaching Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar)”. Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Universitas Islam Negeri Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah kesulitan-kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh mahasiswa ketika menerjemahkan teks bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apa saja kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menerjemahkan bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 63 orang mahasiswa Tadris Bahasa Inggris UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar yang telah mengikuti matakuliah Translation. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik proportional random sampling, berjumlah 30 orang mahasiswa sebagai sampel uji coba. Sehingga 33 mahasiswa sebagai sampel penelitian. Pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen angket tentang kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menerjemahkan teks bahasa Indonesia ke bahasa Inggris. Sebelum disebarkan, angket diujicobakan dengan 44 butir pernyataan kepada sampel uji coba. Dari hasil uji coba, ditemukan 44 pernyataan valid. Setelah data didapatkan, data dianalisis dengan analisis deskriptif statistic menggunakan program komputer SPSS versi 29 dan Microsoft Excel Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Pertama, kesulitan karena tata bahasa dan dasar pembentukan kalimat dikategorikan mengalami kesulitan sedang. Kedua, kesulitan karena menerjemahkan kosa kata dikategorikan mengalami kesulitan sedang. Ketiga, kesulitan karena menggunakan bahasa secara efektif dan kreatif dikategorikan mengalami kesulitan tinggi. Keempat, kesulitan karena menerjemahkan sosial dan budaya tertentu dikategorikan mengalami kesulitan tinggi.

The purpose of this research is to find the variation translation used by sixth semester students in translating legal MOU documents in theTranslation for Specific Purposes Subject at the English Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar academic year 2023/2024. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. The instrument of this research is the researcher herself. The data were taken from the final exam results of the Translation for Specific Purposes subject at the English Teaching Deparment at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the 2023/2024 academic year which consists of 26 documents. The data were analyzed based on the theory of translation variation. The theory used to find the variation translation used by students is Huang & Zhang's theory (2020). Data analysis was conducted by coding the data, evaluating the data, explaining the data, and then concluding the data. The findings showed that 5 students used Screen translate application, 16 students used Deepl translator, 2 students used Google translate, and 2 used Yandex translation. The research findings show that students applied 5 variation of translation. There are 151 Adding variation translation, 148 Deleting variation translation, 81 Editing variation translation, 437 narrating variation translation, and 129 Condensing variation translation.

The background of this research dealt with the unrevealed response from students regarding the benefits of translation applications in translating English texts into Indonesian used by sixth semester students majoring in English at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the Translation for Specific Purpose course. This study aims to describe student responses to the benefits of translation applications in translating English texts into Indonesian used by sixth semester students majoring in English at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The instruments used to collect data were interviews. Supporting instruments in this study were interview guidelines and recording device. The informant collection technique was carried out using a purposive sampling technique, namely by distributing open-ended questionnaires to students who took translation for specific purpose subjects. The informants of this study were all students of the Department of English Tadris class of 2020 who had taken the Translation for Specific Purpose course. The number of informants who filled out the questionnaire was 27 people, and after being analyzed the 27 people met the requirements to become informants in this study. To checking data trustworthines, the researcher used the member check technique to assess the validity of the data obtained. Furthermore, in analyzing the data, the researcher used the theory of Miles and Huberman (2010), namely by reducing data, presenting data, verifying data, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that there were six responses toward the benefits of translation application in translating English texts into Indonesian in the Translation for Specific Purposes course. The results are: (1) help in grammar; (2) assisted in translating difficult words precisely; (3) the level of accuracy of the translation; (4) assisted in pronunciation of the words; (5) help in translate the terms of the sentence; (6) less time to translate.

No. 1630104036, judul skripsi : “An Analysis of Students’ Types in Translating News From English Into Indonesian (A Study of the fifth Semester Students of English Teaching Department in 2021/2022 Academic Year).” Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Universitas Islam Negeri Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan karena adanya tipe-tipe hasil terjemahan mahasiswa terhadap bentuk terjemahan dalam hasil tugas akhir mahasiswa semester kelima Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar Tahun Akademik 2021/2022 pada mata kuliah Translation I. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tipe-tipe kata atau frasa yang memiliki makna lebih dari satu. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan menggunakan content analysis design. Data penelitian ini adalah terjemahan dari tipe-tipe variasi yang ditemukan dalam dokumen hasil terjemahan ujian akhir semester mahasiswa semester 5 Tahun Akademik 2021/2022 pada mata kuliah Translation I. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah dokumen hasil terjemahan ujian akhir semester pada mata kuliah Translation I oleh mahasiswa semester 5 Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris. Total jumlah dokumen yang diambil adalah 59 dokumen dengan menggunakan teknik Total Sampling. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri sekaligus sebagai intrumen kunci. Seperti yang dijelaskan oleh Gay dan Peter (2000:19), peneliti menyadari dirinya sebagai instrumen utama pengumpulan data. Kemudian peneliti menganalisis lembar terjemahan ujian akhir semester mahasiswa Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Tahun Akademik 2021/2022 dengan memperhatikan bentuk tipe-tipe pada text sumber kemudian mencari hasil terjemahan tipe-tipe tersebut dalam bahasa Indonesia. Selanjutnya untuk menganalisis data, peneliti memberikan kode pada setiap dokumen dan data terjemahan yang ditemukan dan mengelompokkan tipe-tipe terjemahan bentuk kata atau frasa tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga tipe-tipe terjemahan mahasiswa kedalam bahasa Indonesia, yaitu Word for word Translation, Literal Translation dan Free Translation. Dengan kata/frasa nya sebagai berikut; “control diabetes” 6 tipe terjemahan, “Indonesia sits on” 12 tipe terjemahan, “Indonesia perches” 7 tipe terjemahan, “swell to” 10 tipe terjemahan, “Indonesians’ reluctance” 7 tipe terjemahan, “getting more sedentary” 23 tipe terjemahan, “not seeing” 10 tipe terjemahan, “watch your plate” 7 tipe terjemahan, “home-cooked meals” 9 tipe terjemahan, “exercise routine” 6 tipe terjemahan.

No. 13 104 067, judul skripsi “An Analysis of Students’ Variation in Translating English Passive Voice Into Bahasa Indonesia (A Study of the fifth Semester Students of English Teaching Department of IAIN Batusangkar).” Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Batusangkar. Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan karena adanya variasi-variasi hasil terjemahan siswa terhadap bentuk pasif (passive voice) dalam hasil tugas akhir mahasiswa semester kelima Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan IAIN Batusangkar Tahun Akademik 2016/2017 pada mata kuliah Translation I. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan variasi-variasi hasil terjemahan mahasiswa terhadap passive voice . Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan menggunakan content analysis design. Data penelitian ini adalah terjemahan dari bentuk pasif yang ditemukan dalam dokumen hasil terjemahan ujian akhir semester mahasiswa semester 5 Tahun Akademik 2017/2018 pada mata kuliah Translation I. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah dokumen hasil terjemahan ujian akhir semester pada mata kuliah Translation I oleh mahasiswa semester 5 Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris. Total jumlah dokumen yang diambil adalah 91 dokumen dengan menggunakan teknik Total Sampling. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri sekaligus sebagai intrumen kunci. Kemudian peneliti menganalisis lembar terjemahan ujian akhir semester mahasiswa Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Tahun Akademik 2017/2018 dengan memperhatikan bentuk pasif pada text sumber kemudian mencari hasil terjemahan bentuk pasif tersebut dalam bahasa Indonesia. Selanjutnya untuk menganalisis data, peneliti memberikan kode pada setiap dokumen dan data terjemahan yang ditemukan dan mengelompokkan variasi terjemahan bentuk pasif tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 137 bentuk variasi terjemahan siswa kedalam bahasa Indonesia dari 20 bentuk pasif yang ditemukan pada text sumber. Variasi terjemahan tersebut yaitu “(had) being banned” 8 variasi terjemahan, “was brought down in” 13 variasi terjemahan, “be sentenced” 7 variasi terjemahan, “(is) given by” 7 variasi terjemahan, “were convicted of” 7 variasi terjemahan, “were embroiled in” 5 variasi terjemahan, “was placed under” 7 variasi terjemahan, “is sponsored by” 4 variasi terjemahan, “(was) exposed by” 17 variasi terjemahan, “had been covered up by” 5 variasi terjemahan, “was banned from” 5 variasi terjemahan, “were excluded from” 5 variasi terjemahan, “have never been convicted of” 7 variasi terjemahan, “(was) banned for” 5 variasi terjemahan, “was not suspended” 11 variasi terjemahan, “have been banned for” 4 variasi terjemahan, “was charged over” 4 variasi terjemahan, “were investigated” 2 variasi terjemahan, “was caught up in” 4 variasi terjemahan dan “had been banned for” 5 variasi terjemahan.

ABSTRAK SARI RAHAYU PUTRI, NIM 13 104 083, judul skripsi: “AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH HEADLINE NEWS INTO BAHASA INDONESIA (A Study of the Fifth Semester Students of English Department of IAIN Batusangkar Registered in 2017/2018 Academic Year)”. Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Batusangkar. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah belum terungkapnya prinsip-prinsip yang dilakukan mahasiswa Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Semester Lima IAIN Batusangkar tahun 2017/2018 dalam menterjemahkan judul berita berbahasa Inggris ke dalam bahasa Indonesia yang diambil dari sumber The Jakarta Post mengenai sport. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan prinsip-prinsip yang dilakukan mahasiswa Tadris Bahasa Inggris Semester Lima IAIN Batusangkar tahun 2017/2018 dalam menterjemahkan judul berita berbahasa Inggris ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode content analysis. Jumlah data dalam dokumen ini adalah 88 dokumen yang terdiri dari dokumen mahasiswa/i TBI A, TBI B, TBI C, yang berada di Semester Lima. Dokumen penelitian ini adalah ujian akhir mahasiswa/i Semester Lima Tadris Bahasa Inggris yang mengambil mata kuliah Translation 1 di IAIN Batusangkar tahun akademik 2017/2018 dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk memperoleh data adalah peneliti sendiri dengan melakukan analisis data. Untuk menguji kebenaran data, peneliti melakukan checking the data trustworthiness dengan melakukan analisis kembali dengan dokumen tersebut. Selanjutnya dalam menganalisis dokumen, setiap judul berita ditandai dan diberi kode. Kemudian dikelompokkan dalam bentuk-bentuk tabel analysis of principle contohnya Provocative, Brief and Solid, Relevant, Functional, Formal, Representative, Refers to Formal Language, Specific dikemukakan oleh Juwito. Dari hasil penelitian, peneliti menemukan 8 prinsip-prinsip judul berita yang dilakukan oleh Mahasiswa/i Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris Semester Lima IAIN Batusangkar tahun 2017/2018 dalam menterjemahkan judul berita yang berbahasa Inggris kedalam Bahasa Indonesia, yaitu Provocative, Brief and Solid, Relevant, Functional, Formal, Representative, Refers to Formal Language, Specific dikemukakan oleh Juwito.
