An Analysis of Textbooks Designed by English Students in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Classroom

ABSTRAK DELLA SRIYANTI. 14 104 020, judul skripsi “AN ANALYSIS OF TEXTBOOKS DESIGNED BY ENGLISH STUDENTS IN ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES (ESP) CLASSROOM”. Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Batusangkar. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah belum sesuainya tujuan pembelajaran dan visual illustration yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa semester 7 Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris yang mengambil mata kuliah English for Specific Purposes (ESP) tahun akademik 2018/2019. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tujuan pembelajaran dan visual illustration pada setiap unit dalam textbooks yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa semester 7 yang mengambil mata kuliah English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan teknik analisis isi (content analysis). Data dalam penelitian ini adalah semua rancangan textbook yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa semester 7 Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris yang mengambil mata kuliah English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Sumber data penelitiannya adalah dokumen dalam bentuk textbook hasil dari tugas akhir semester mata kuliah English for Specific Purposes (ESP) mahasiswa semester 7 Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris yang berjumlah 10 textbook. Untuk mengumpulkan data peneliti meminta izin ke dosen pengampu mata kuliah. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis dokumen. Dalam menganalisis dokumen peneliti fokus pada tujuan pembelajaran yang baik menurut teori Uno (2006), Litz (2003), and Kusrianto (2007) yaitu adanya unsur ABCD (Audience, Behaviour, Conditioning, Degree) dan visual illustrasion dari unit dalam textbook. Dalam penelitian ini ada tiga langkah yang dilakukan untuk menganalisis data berdasarkan teori analisis isi dari Gay (2000); Analyzing the data, describing learning objectives and visual illustration of the unit in ESP textbooks, and interpreting the result. Untuk menguji keabsahan data ini, peneliti membaca dan menandai dokumen beberapa kali. Dari analisis yang dilakukan oleh peneliti bahwa tujuan pembelajaran dan visual illustration yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa sebagian besar memenuhi kriteria tetapi ada beberapa kesalahan yang ditemukan di bagian unit tertentu. Ada empat elemen tujuan pembelajaran yang baik. Pertama, Audience. Semua tujuan pembelajaran dalam textbook dari unit 1 sampai 7 memenuhi. Kedua, Behavior. Ada satu textbook yang tidak memenuhi yaitu D7 unit 7 and D8 unit 1. Ketiga, Condition. D1, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, D9, D10 semua unit dalam textbook tidak memenuhi kecuali D5 unit 1 memenuhi. Keempat, Degree. Ada satu textbook yang tidak memenuhi yaitu D8 unit 1. Kriteria selanjutnya yaitu textbook harus relevan antara gambar dan teks yang disajikan. Sebagian besar unit dalam textbook memenuhi, kecuali D1 unit 6, D4 unit 5 and 6, D5 unit 1, 3, 5, 6, D9 unit 7, D10 unit 3 and 4 tidak memenuhi.

تطوير المواد التعليمية للمفردات على أساس مودول الإلكتروني ببرنامج حيزين فليب بوكس (Heyzine Flipbooks) في المدرسة الثانوية الدينية تنجونغ بارولاك

المشكلات في هذا البحث بأن المواد التعليمية المستخدمة لا تزال غير كافية لقدرة الطلاب على المفردات ولا تزال هناك أخطاء حركات في مفرداتها. أما أغراض في هذا البحث: 1) لمعرفة تحليل الإحتياجات إلى تطوير المواد التعليمية للمفردات في المدرسة الثانوية الدّينيّة تنجونغ بارولاك 2) لمعرفة تطوير المواد التعليمية للمفردات على أساس مودول الإلكتروني ببرنامج حيزين فليب بوكس (Heyzine Flipbooks) في المدرسة الثانوية الدّينيّة تنجونغ بارولاك 3) لمعرفة تصحيح المواد التعليمية للمفردات على أساس مودول الإلكتروني ببرنامج حيزين فليب بوكس (Heyzine Flipbooks) في المدرسة الثانوية الدّينيّة تنجونغ بارولاك. نوع البحث الذي قام الباحث في هذا البحث يعني البحث والتطوبر. ونموذج التطوير المستخدم الباحث هو نموذج 4D يتم تعديله إلى 3D ، أما المراحله هو يعني التعريف (Define) ، والتصميم (Design) ، والتطوير (Develop). تم الحصول على تقنيات جمع البيانات في هذا البحث من الملاحظة والمقابلة. وتمت معالجة البيانات باستخدام مقياس ليكرت ، ثم تم تحليلها باستخدام الوصف الكمّية. وكانت نتائج هذا البحث هي أن مادة المفردات في المدرسة الثانوية الدّينيّة تنجونغ بارولاك تتطلب مواد تعليمية. تم الحصول على نتائج هذا البحث من الخبراء الذين أصبحوا مصدقين باستخدام أوراق التصحيح. وقد حصلت نتائج التصحيح من صحة المواد من خبراء الوسيلة على نسبة %92 بفئة ”صحيح جداً“، وحصلت نتائج التصحيح من خبراء المواد على نسبة %100 بفئة ”صحيح جداً“، وحصلت نتائج التصحيح من اللغوي على نسبة %89 بفئة ”صحيح جداً“. وكانت نتيجة التصحيح من الصلاحية %٩٣،٦٦ مع فئة ”صحيح جداً“.

Exploring Procedures in Writing Textbooks in English for Specific Purposes Subject (A Study of the Fifth Semester Students of English Teaching Department in 2023/2024 Academic Year)

Indah Meilany, Reg No. 2030104027, entitled: “Exploring Procedures in Writing Textbooks in English for Specific Purposes Subject” (A Study of the Fifth Semester English Students of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar Registered in 2023/2024 Academic Year). English Teaching Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Islamic State University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. This research is motivated by the problem of difficulties faced by students when writing textbooks so that proper writing procedures are needed. The purpose of this study is to exploring procedures in writing textbooks in the English for Specific Purposes Subject. The type of this research is qualitative research with descriptive qualitative design. The technique used in taking informants is purposive sampling. The informants in this research are students who have taken English for Specific Purposes subject in the 2023/2024 academic year. The number of informants who use procedures in writing textbooks is 10 informants. The instrument used to collect the data is an interview. The supporting instruments in this research are interview guidelines, audio recordings, and documentation. To test the validity of the data, researcher used an extension of participation, namely by conducting additional interviews if there was insufficient or dubious data or information related to the agreement requested by the informant during the first interview. To analyze the data, researcher refer to the theory (Miles and Huberman in Ilahi, 2020), namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing, and data verification. Researcher conducted interviews based on the interview guide, then analyzed the results of the interviews, drew conclusions, and verified the research findings. The results of this reseacrh show that there are nine procedures used by students in writing textbooks as the final project of the English for specific purposes subject. These procedures are: 1) Making guidline 2) Decide on tittle 3) Doing observation 4) Writing action plan 5) Use idea generation 6) Drafting 7) Revising 8) Editing 9) Publishing.

AN EVALUATION THE STRUCTURE OF ENGLISH BOOKS TRANSLATED INTO INDONESIAN BY STUDENTS FROM STRUCTURE PERSPECTIVE

English Teaching Department, Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The problem of this research is that the structure of the student's translated book is not in accordance with the standard book structure in general in Indonesia according to experts. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the results of the sixth semester students' translation books in the Translation for Specific Purposes subject at the English Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the 2022/2023 academic year. The kind of this research is qualitative research by using content analysis. The data of this research are aspects of book structure that books translated has by each group of students in the Translation for Specific Purposes subject of English Teaching department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the 2022/2023 academic year. The theory used to evaluate the translated books by students is the general book structure theory according to Suwarno (2011). The instrument of this research is the researcher herself. Data analysis was carried out with the steps of coding the data, evaluating the data, interpreting the data, and making conclusions. The results showed that among the seven books evaluated, none of the translated books reached the good category in accordance with Suwarno's theory of book structure. Books that have a fair category are the first book (B.1), the third book (B.3) with a percentage result of 62.5% and the fourth book (B.4), the sixth book (B.6) with a result percentage of 58,3%. For books with sufficient categories are three books, namely the second book (B.2) with a percentage result of 45.8%, the seventh book (B.7) with a percentage result of 41.6% and the fifth book (B.5) has a percentage result of 33.3%.
