ABSTRAK EGA GUSTI M, NIM 16 301 04012, judul skripsi “STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN USING PAST TENSE IN THEIR WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT IN IAIN BATUSANGKAR“. Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan IAIN Batusangkar. Masalah pada penelitian ini adalah belum terdeskripsinya kemampuan mahasiswa Tadris Bahasa Inggris semester dua IAIN Batusangkar dalam menggunakan Past Tense dalam menulis teks Narrative . Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan mahasiswa Tadris Bahasa Inggris semester dua IAIN Batusangkar dalam menggunakan Past Tense dalam menulis teks Narrative. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan desain cross-sectional. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa Tadris Bahasa Inggris semester dua IAIN Batusangkar tahun akademik 2019/2020 yang berjumlah 44 orang. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 44 mahasiswa karena populasi dari penelitian ini kurang dari 100 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah hasil tes menulis berupa dokumen teks Narratve yang ditulis oleh mahasiswa Tadris Bahasa Inggris semester dua IAIN Batusangkar tahun akademik 2019/2020 pada materi Narrative Text. Tes ini dinyatakan valid karena dosen memberikan tes berdasarakan materi yang diajarkan berdasarkan silabus. Untuk mengetahui reliabilitas, dilakukan Intra-rater scoring sehingga di dapatkan hasil 0.90 yang menyatakan tes tersebut reliable. Berdasarkan analisis data, didapatkan bahwa ada 22 mahasiswa mendapatkan nilai sangat baik dalam menggunakan past tense dalam menulis teks narrative pada presentase (50%), 13 mahasiswa yang mendapatakan nilai baik dalam menggunakan past tense dalam menulis teks narrative pada presentase(29.54%), 5 mahasiswa mendapatkan nilai cukup dalam menggunakan past tense dalam menulis teks narrative pada presentase (11,36%), 2 mahasiswa mendapatkan nilai buruk dalam menggunakan past tense di dalam menulis teks narrative pada presentse (4,54%), 2 mahasiswa mendapatkan nilai sangat buruk dalam menggunakan past tense dalam menulis teks narrative pada presentase (4,54%). Jadi dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa Tadris Bahasa Inggris semester dua IAIN Batusangkar dalam menggunakan Past Tense adalah good dengan nilai Rata-rata 75.61.

The problem of this research was unrevealed contributing factors on students’ difficulties in comprehending narrative text. This research was aimed to describe contributing factors on students’ difficulties in comprehending narrative text at SMAN 1 Batusangkar. This research was a qualitative research, using a case study design. The technique used in choosing informants is purposive sampling. The informants of this research was tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Batusangkar registered in 2024/2025 academic year who had difficulty in comprehending narrative text. In this research, the researcher was the key instrument and the interview guide as a supportive instrument. In collecting the data, she interviewed the nine research infomants. To ensure data validity, the researcher used member checking, namely by asking the participants to review the data, information, interpretations, and research report prepared by the researcher after the first interview. To carry out data analysis, the researcher referred to the theory (Miles and Huberman in Sari, 2022), namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing and data verification. The researcher conducted interviews based on the interview guide, then analyzed the results of the interviews, and drew conclusions and verified the research findings. The result of this research indicate that there were eight contributing factors on students’ difficulties in comprehending narrative text. The factors difficullties are: 1) Having limited vocabulary 2) Having low reading interest and motivation 3) Having limited familiarity with subject matter 4) Having problem in recalling information 5) Having difficulty in understanding long sentence 6) Having inadeququate instruction from teacher.

PUTRI ALIKA, Reg No. 2130104050, entitled: “PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS' STRATEGIES IN TEACHING NARRATIVE TEXT AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS” English Teaching Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Islamic State University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. It's essential to understand how pre-service teachers develop and apply their strategies in teaching narrative text reading skills, especially given their limited teaching experience compared to senior teachers.This research aims to find out the strategies used by pre-service teachers in teaching narrative text reading at Senior High Schools. Type of this research was quantitative research with descriptive design. The population of this research was all pre-service teachers of English Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar who had done their teaching practice (PPL) and taught narrative texts. The total number of respondents was 31, and they were selected using total sampling technique. The data were collected using a closed- ended questionnaire based on the four components of reciprocal teaching strategies as stated by Palinscar and Brown (1984), namely: Previewing & Predicting, Questioning, Clarifying, and Summarizing. Each component consisted of positive and negative statement items to maintain the balance and accuracy of the data. The questionnaire had been validated by experts, and the data obtained were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis with SPSS 25 software. The results of the research showed that the overall strategies used by pre- service teachers in teaching narrative texts were in the "Accurate" category. The detailed analysis also revealed that most pre-service teachers from UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the academic year 2024/2025 had applied the Previewing & Predicting, Questioning, and Clarifying strategies at the average level. However, Summarizing strategy was identified as the least accurately applied strategy among the four. findings revealed that 61.3% of the pre-service teachers applied the Previewing & Predicting strategy at an average level, while only 9.7% demonstrated very accurate application. For the Questioning strategy, 51.6% were categorized as average and 19.4% as very accurate. Similarly, 58.1% of the respondents applied the Clarifying strategy at an average level, with just 6.5% reaching the very accurate level. However, the Summarizing strategy was the most challenging, with 58.1% of respondents classified as less accurate and 25.8% as not accurate. The total score analysis showed that more than half of the respondents implemented reading strategies effectively. This indicates that the majority of them demonstrated a good understanding and application of the reading strategies.

PUTRI NOVITA, No Reg. 2030104050, entitled: “Contributive Reason For Facing Difficulties in Reading Narrative Text”(A Case Study of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Tarab Registered in 2023/2024 Academic Year). English Teaching Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Islamic State University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar.The problem of this research was unrevealed students’ difficulties in understanding narrative text. The purpose of this research was to describe the reasons students’ difficulties in understanding narrative text of eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Tarab.This type of research was a qualitative research, a case study design. Thetechnique used in choosing informants was purposive random sampling. The informants in this research was eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Tarab who had difficulty in understanding narrative text. In this research, the researcher acted as the key instrument and the interview guide as a supporting instrument. In collecting the data, she interviewed the research informants. To test the validity of the data, the researcher used a prolong engagement, namely by conducting additional interviews if there was insufficient or doubtful data or information regarding the consent requested by the informant during the first interview. To carry out data analysis, she referred to the theory (Miles and Huberman in Sari, 2022), namely: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and data verification. She conducted interviews based on the interview guide, then analyzed the results of the interviews, and drew conclusions and verified the research findings.The results of this research indicate that there were four students’ difficulties in understanding narrative text. The difficulties are: 1) Difficulty in understanding narrative text because unfamiliar word, 2) Difficulty in understanding narrative text because lack of motivation, 3) Difficulty in understanding narrative text because lack of plot elements, 4) Difficulty in understanding narrative text because lack of guess.

EGI ASTY NINGSIH, NO. REG. 2030104016, Thesis tilte: SOURCES OF STUDENTS’ ENJOYMENT IN READING NARRATIVE TEXT. English Teaching Department of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty of State Islamic University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The problem in this study is that it has not revealed the various sources of students’ enjoyment in learning Reading Narrative Text. The purpose of this study is to describe the sources of students' enjoyment in Reading Narrative Text at English Teaching Department of State Islamic University Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The research method was Qualitative with a case study design. Research setting was the Reading Narrative Text class of English Teaching Department majoring in second semester of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The informants of this research were 10 students majoring in English Education in the academic year 2023/2024 who were determined by purposive sampling technique. In this study, the researcher functions as the main instrument in data collection and is assisted interview guidelines. To test the validity of the data, the researcher conducted time triangulation by comparing the first with the second interview. Furthermore, to analyze the data, the researcher used the theory by Sugiyono (2013) of reducing data, presenting data, and verifying data and drawing conclusions. The result of this study showed that there were some sources of students’ enjoyment in reading narrative text. The sources were: 1) intrinsic factors such as; a) intrinsic motivation, b) sense of accomplishment, c) novelty seeking, d) easy to understand, e) active participation, f) new insight or aha moment, g) expressive reading ; 2) extrinsic factors such as; a) teacher contribution, b) friends contribution, c) use of technology, d) positive atmosphere, e) interesting material, f) interactive book useful, g) method, h) healthy competition, i) interactive media, j) conducive classroom, k) classroom facility.

Berjudul "Students' Difficulties in Listening to Narrative Texts at Second Semester English Department of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar", Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan, Universitas Islam Negri Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. Latar belakang penelitian ini, dilatar belakangi oleh banyaknya mahasiswa yang mendapatkan nilai yang rendah dibawah rata-rata indikator pencapaian dalam proses menyimak (Listening to Narrative Text) semester dua tahun ajaran 2022/2023 Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Informan penelitian ini berjumlah 8 orang mahasiswa Bahasa Inggris semester dua jurusan bahasa Inggris tahun ajaran 20222/2023. Informan dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik Purposive Sampling. Instrumen kunci adalah peneliti sendiri ditambah dengan pedoman wawancara, perekam suara, dan kamera hp. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti melakukan wawancara. Wawancara dilakukan untuk memperoleh informasi yang dalam mengenai kesulitan mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran Listening to Narrative Text. Untuk memeriksa keandalan data menggunakan triangulasi. Dalam menganalisis data sesuai dengan teori Milles dan Huberman (1994) yaitu, melalui e tahap reduksi data, penyajian data, verifikasi data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tujuh faktor penyebab masalah yamg dihadapi mahasiswa dari hasil wawancara, antara lain : a) kualitas dari audio rekording materi b) aksen c) kata-kata yang tidak familir d) kecepatan pembicara dalam mendengarkan e) pemutaran ulang rekaman f) kesulitan dalam generik struktur

Nurfadillah Sasmita, NIM. 19301104046, entitled "ERROR ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE FEATURES IN STUDENTS’ NARRATIVE TEXT AT ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF UIN MAHMUD YUNUS BATUSANGKAR" Department of Tarbiyah English Tadris Study Program, State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The problem in this study is that there are errors found in the language features of narrative texts made by second semester students majoring in English Department of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The purpose of this research is to analyze the language features errors found in narrative texts made by students in the 2022/2023 academic year. The research method used is content analysis. The documents analyzed in this study were 16 documents for the final exam for writing for narrative courses. The research instrument in this study used a documentation checklist table. In this study, 4 types of errors in writing narrative text were analyzed using the theory of surface strategy taxonomy by Dulay (1982). The results of the study indicate that there are 3 types of errors found in student writing namely, error in writing past tense, error in writing noun & pronoun, error in writing adverb, and error in writing conjunctions. In the error in writing past tense found omission of verb, misformation of verb, and misordering of verb. In the error in writing noun & pronoun found error in omission of nouns, omission of pronoun, and misformation of noun. In the error of writing adverb found error in addition. And the last is error in writing conjunctions, found misformation of conjunctions, misformation of conjunctions, and addition of conjunctions.

Masalah penelitian yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah keterbatasan bahan ajar, bahan ajar yang digunakan tidak sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa, serta kurangnya contoh soal, tugas individu, atau evaluasi, soal materi teks naratif. dalam bahan ajar yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris kelas x. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan kebutuhan siswa dan guru akan modul elektronik (e-modul) berbasis Pendekatan Ilmiah; (2) membuat prototipe atau merancang modul elektronik (e-modul) berdasarkan Pendekatan Ilmiah; dan (3) mendeskripsikan hasil validasi ahli terhadap modul elektronik (e-modul) berbasis Pendekatan Ilmiah. Jenis penelitian ini disebut penelitian dan pengembangan. Model pengembangan yang digunakan adalah model pengembangan 4D yang terdiri dari tahap define, design, develop, dan mendistribusikan, namun penelitian hanya dilakukan sampai tahap develop. Untuk menilai produk yang peneliti rancang, dalam penelitian ini dilakukan uji validitas oleh 3 validator, dua orang dosen dan satu orang guru. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan, (1) dapat diketahui bahwa guru dan siswa membutuhkan bahan ajar e-modul teks naratif dengan menggunakan pendekatan saintifik. (2) Prototipe teks naratif e-modul sesuai dengan pendekatan saintifik. (3) Uji validasi e-modul berbantuan Kvisoft Flipbook Maker pada materi teks naratif pembelajaran bahasa Inggris adalah 76,89% dengan kategori valid. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa e-modul berbantuan kvisoft flipbook maker pada materi teks naratif dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris layak digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran.
