Reading Success for All Students
Help for reading teachers in continuous monitoring, assessment and instruction that targets students' problem areas This vital resource offers classroom teachers and literacy coaches practical assessments that can be used to evaluate key areas in students' reading performance. These assessments will provide information that can be directly used for planning instruction. Specific instructional techniques and activities are linked to each of the assessments so that teachers know exactly how to teach necessary skills. Tests and other evaluative devices are aligned with Common Core State Standards and state frameworks. Offers a proven model for monitoring and assessing students Assessments and instructional strategies are easy to implement as part of any curriculum Practical strategies are modeled on a tested approach for helping students work through their problem areas
A Pair of Idols ...
A Pair of Blue Eyes
Thomas Hardy presents another entrancing and captivating work. The story of Elfride and her desires, that are not yet clear to herself, as well as the two suitors, whose intentions are manifest, is presented. The demands made of a female by her parents and society is elucidated upon in a brilliant manner.

Liberator Bomber
United States Army Air Corps Lieutenant Eugene T. Winn wrote home to his father regularly, from before his enlistment in May 1942 until his discharge in September 1945. This correspondence is the core of the book. Documents and photographs give a definitive sense of place and immediacy to the story. And in the telling, the reader can learn much of war and its lasting effects on persons, family, community. It is a compelling story laced with suspense and drama. Lt. Winn did not want to be in the Army, and like many young men of his day saw aviation as preferable. The airplane was going to revolutionize war making. Eugene wanted to be part of that revolution. And so he was, in a four-engine bomber, a B-24 "Liberator," stationed in Bugay, England. In early June 1944, Winn's wife was notified that her husband was "missing in action." Frantic attempts to find out what had happened on 25 May 1944 had to wait the liberation of Paris for answers. No fairy tale this, still a happy ending, but with scars and lessons for a lifetime. The story indeed is compelling, more compelling than any fairy tale might ever be.

Prelude Fugue and Variations
These letters from a young Army chaplain to his teenage girlfriend reveal much about the world during the First World War, both in the Army and civilian life. The horror and tragedy of war stand in stark contrast against the loving thoughts and advice for his young girlfriend -- back cover.

Potential Theory in the Complex Plane
Ransford provides an introduction to the subject, concentrating on the important case of two dimensions, and emphasizing its links with complex analysis. This is reflected in the large number of applications, which include Picard's theorem, the Phragmén-Lindelöf principle, the Radó-Stout theorem, Lindelöf's theory of asymptotic values, the Riemann mapping theorem (including continuity at the boundary), the Koebe one-quarter theorem, Hilbert's lemniscate theorem, and the sharp quantitative form of Runge's theorem. In addition, there is a chapter on connections with functional analysis and dynamical systems, which shows how the theory can be applied to other parts of mathematics and gives a flavor of some recent research in the area.
Several Complex Variables VII
This volume of the Encyclopaedia offers a systematic introduction and a comprehensive survey of the theory of complex spaces. It covers topics like semi-normal complex spaces, cohomology, the Levi problem, q-convexity and q-concavity. It is the first surv
Oesophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Northeastern Iran
Golestan Province in northern Iran is a very high-incidence area for oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), while tobacco and alcohol use, the major risk factors of OSCC in the Western countries, are not common habits there. As an attempt to indentify the risk factors of OSCC in Golestan, the following studies were conducted in the context of this thesis: a meta-analysis on Helicobacter pylori and risk of OSCC; a cross-sectional study on patterns of food and nutrient intake among 131 healthy individuals; a case-control study with 300 cases/571 controls on the association of socioeconomic status and tea drinking habits with OSCC; a cross-sectional study on patterns of exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) among 110 healthy individuals. -- In the meta-analysis, there was no significant association between H. pylori and risk of OSCC, but there was substantial heterogeneity among studies. A large proportion of Golestan inhabitants drink hot tea. Our results showed a two-fold and 8-fold increase in risk of OSCC associated with drinking hot and very hot tea, respectively. Several indicators of SES, including formal education, being married, and high wealth were inversely associated with risk of OSCC. We found severe nutrient deficiencies among rural dwellers and women and a high exposure of the general population to PAHs in Golestan. Only kerosene and gas were used for heating, which was not associated with exposure to PAHs. Red meat intake, passive smoking, and certain genetic polymorphisms showed associations with PAH metabolites in urine. Meat frying intensity had significant associations with bulky DNA adduct levels. -- Interactions among several factors, e.g. hot tea drinking and intra-luminal PAHs, with the background of poor socioeconomic status and deficient nutrient intake, may be responsible for the high incidence of OSCC in Golestan.
