The same situation would repeat every day. Would that not be awesome? Unfortunately it does not happen all the time. Actually it happens almost never. There is almost always one student who is not motivated because of reasons we cannot influence or change. Nevertheless there are some things we can change or influence when it comes to motivation.
Higher education is a high stakes process involving engagement with curricula and often entails coping with the onslaught of assessments and examinations. This process creates a level of intensity that impacts on the student experience in higher education. It is, therefore, important to consider not only the motivational aspects of learning but also quality of life issues, as they have profound effects on students. Quality of life affects the way students interact with their formal education, and has wide-reaching effects on future careers and their ability to coordinate everyday events. Integrating these two concepts, student motivation and quality of life, brings together the explicit elements that underpin learning in the higher education context, creating links between the affective and social aspects of the student life. This synthesis is integral to improving student retention and quality of life and has important ramifications for educationalists, administrators, pastoral care and academic support service personnel, and students themselves. As the English language has spread around the globe and the English teaching industry has expanded, so interest in the theory behind the methods of teaching and curiosity regarding innovative classroom techniques have also grown. Recently, advances in technology have had a major impact on the way teachers at all levels work, as has the greater interest in the learner as an individual. This qualitative action research study examined teachers' perceptions of leadership, research-based practices, and experience. I investigated how these three factors influenced the culture and change process at one suburban high school in order to better understand the context and to ultimately use the knowledge gained to improve the culture and change process at the school. I interviewed five teachers and also collected data from various artifacts. The findings were used to open up dialogue with administration in the desire to bridge the current rift between teachers and administration. The findings indicate that the teachers want to participate in decision making, should be exposed to research early on in their undergraduate programs, should conduct their own action research studies, value their colleagues' experiences as well as the teaching experience of the administrators, and that open communication about the purpose of a new change might increase the acceptance of the change.

Wie in allen personalintensiven Dienstleistungsbranchen ist die standortnahe akademische Ausbildung qualifizierter Fachkr fte ein wichtiger Aspekt. Das Buch zeigt unter W rdigung aktuell angespannter, ffentlicher Haushalte einen Realisierungsansatz zur Gr ndung und zum Betrieb einer Medienhochschule als Stiftungsmodell im Rahmen eines Public Private Partnerships - am Beispiel des Bundeslandes Niedersachsen auf. Mexicanos in Oregon: Their Stories, Their Lives sheds new light on why migrants come to Oregon, what their experiences are when they settle here, and how they adapt to life in the United States. Although Oregon has had a settled Mexican-origin population since the mid-nineteenth century, the number of Latinos residing in Oregon has grown dramatically over the last two decades, leading to increased diversity across the state, particularly visible in the public school system and in agricultural and service occupations. Mexicanos in Oregon explores this history of migration and settlement of mexicanos, highlighting their sustained practices of community building, their struggles for integration, and their contributions to the economic and cultural life of the state. Using archival records, primary and secondary sources, demographic statistics, and personal testimonies, and drawing from multiple disciplines, Gonzales-Berry and Mendoza create a picture of the economic, political, social, and cultural conditions that have shaped the lives of mexicanos. The blend of scholarly research and individual stories reflects the very human dimension and complex forces that make up the mexicano experience in Oregon.
