When ricocheting a solution that involves analytics, the mainframe might not be the first platform that comes to mind. However, the IBM® System z® group has developed some innovative solutions that include the well-respected mainframe benefits. This book describes a workshop that demonstrates the use of real-time advanced analytics for enhancing core banking decisions using a loan origination example. The workshop is a live hands-on experience of the entire process from analytics modeling to deployment of real-time scoring services for use on IBM z/OS®. In this IBM Redbooks® publication, we include a facilitator guide chapter as well as a participant guide chapter. The facilitator guide includes information about the preparation, such as the needed material, resources, and steps to set up and run this workshop. The participant guide shows step-by-step the tasks for a successful learning experience. The goal of the first hands-on exercise is to learn how to use IBM SPSS® Modeler for Analytics modeling. This provides the basis for the next exercise "Configuring risk assessment in SPSS Decision Management". In the third exercise, the participant experiences how real-time scoring can be implemented on a System z. This publication is written for consultants, IT architects, and IT administrators who want to become familiar with SPSS and analytics solutions on the System z.

From force field analysis to `zero defects', from `brainstorming' to the Deming Wheel, this volume meets the need for a short, accessible reference to the 100 most frequently adopted methods for implementing total quality management. Central to the book is a broad interpretation of TQM - the methods addressed are relevant to all those interested in using explicit tools, qualitative and quantitative, to assist problem-solving, analysis and evaluation in the management process. After an introduction briefly outlining the basic principles of TQM, the bulk of the book then provides clear, concise outlines of the 100 methods. It describes their purpose, application - `how to use' - and benefits, with examples. A classification of the methods is also provided, utilizing the broad schema's of: management methods, idea generation, data collection and analysis.

Financial services regulators are tasked with balancing the conflicting roles of empowering and policing their regulated communities. In order to be effective, agencies must be able to accomplish both tasks. This analysis examines several determinants of effectiveness among U.S. bank regulators. Using statistical and narrative analyses, it examines factors that have contributed to the regulatory effectiveness of the National Credit Union Administration, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and Office of Thrift Supervision. The study focused on the relationships between regulatory ability to prevent failures and influences including agency longevity, ability to manage complexity, appointee and staff qualities, mission stability, regulatory style, and resources. Agency longevity and resources had the greatest impact on effectiveness among the cases that were examined. Additionally, this study proposes a typology that suggests that more effective regulators are able to balance information from their regulated communities with a public interest orientation. This allows them to have current information regarding emerging regulatory issues but also to avoid becoming too reliant on their supervised institutions for information. By not being overly reliant or out of touch with their regulated communities, agency can better foster regulatory resiliency.

Five years ago, with excitement and uncertainty, we witnessed the birth of PRIMA (Paci?c Rim International Workshop on Multi-Agents). The ?rst PRIMA in 1998 has now grown into PRIMA 2003, the 6th Paci?c Rim Inter- tional Workshop on Multi-Agents in Seoul, Korea. During a period of ?ve years, the notion of agent research has grown so much that we hear the term agent on a daily basis. Various ?elds such as business, the Web, software engineering, on-line games and such are now using the term agent as a placeholder, just like the term object is used in the object-oriented paradigm. On the other hand, the research area has extended toward real applications, such as the Semantic Web and ubiquitous computing. The themes of PRIMA 2003 re?ected the following trends: – agent-based electronic commerce, auctions and markets – agent architectures and their applications – agent communication languages, dialog and interaction protocols – agent ontologies – agent programming languages, frameworks and toolkits – agentcities – agents and grid computing – agents and peer computing –agentsandtheSemanticWeb – agents and Web services – arti?cial social systems – con?ict resolution and negotiation – evaluation of multi-agent systems – languages and techniques for describing (multi-)agent systems – meta modeling and meta reasoning – multi-agent planning and learning – multi-agent systems and their applications – social reasoning, agent modeling, and organization – standards for agents and multi-agent systems – teams and coalitions – ubiquitous agents

With its low bandwidth and tiny file sizes, it is often wrongly assumed that sound and video can never achieve a really high level of sophistication in Flash animations. With competitive motion graphics techniques rapidly evolving, there is a constantly growing demand for the next stage in sophisticated design—video and sound. This book will do exactly what they said wasn't possible by illustrating how video and sound can be integrated into your Flash presentations, placing you at the extreme edge of creative web design. The application of such tools as AfterEffects, QuickTime, SoundForge and Wildform test the boundaries of Flash and suggest ways to take sound and video beyond Flash and into the realm of Shockwave. Showing you how to break your site down and incorporate video and sound, the techniques covered in this book capitalise on the capabilities of Flash, whilst tackling its limitations head-on. It will then look at how to take web video and sound a step further with Shockwave presentations. What you’ll learnWho this book is for All Flash designers who appreciate the need to use sound and video in order to stay ahead in the motion web graphics sector. Readers of other friends of ED Flash Studio titles who want to take the next step towards becoming "New Masters".
