Calculation of Gamma-Ray Response Matrix for 5-cm NE-213 Organic Liquid Scintillation Detector

The gamma-ray response matrix is reported for a 5-cm NE-214 organic liquid scintallation detector. Gamma-ray response functions were determined by Monte-Carlo calculations of the pulse-height spectra. The calculational method was thoroughly tested by comparisons with measured results from several laboratory gamma-ray sources. The response matrix generated from these calculations is 186 x 93, covering a pulse-height range from 0.10 to 9.40 light units and an energy range from 0.22 to 11.99 MeV. The response matrix was tested by unfolding a variety of measured gamma-ray spectra. The detector efficiency is also presented. (Author).

Corpus Linguistics and Textual History

Over the years the use of computers for research has become increasingly important in Biblical Studies. However, a combination of computational linguistics with diachronic text-critical and text-historical approaches has hardly ever taken place. Quite often, there is mutual misunderstanding between computational linguistics and more traditional approaches in the field of linguistics and textual analysis. For example, in computer-assisted research of modern text corpora it is common to treat the text as an unequivocal and unidimensional sequence of characters. In Biblical Studies, however, either text is considered an abstraction, the result of a scholarly reconstruction based on the extant textual witnesses. Here a fundamental difference in approach reveals itself. The present volume tries to overcome the misunderstanding between the various disciplines and to establish how a fruitful interaction of information technology, linguistics and textual criticism, can contribute to the analysis of ancient texts. It addresses questions concerning the confrontation between synchronic and diachronic approaches, the role of linguistic analysis in the interpretation of texts, and the interaction of linguistic theory and the analysis of linguistic data. The first section of this volume contains the papers presented at the CALAP seminar 2003. In the second section different aspects of the interdisciplinary analysis are applied to a selected passage from the Peshitta of Kings.

Oleh karena itu, adanya laboratorium sangat signifikan untuk mendukung pembelajaran sains yang terarah dan terpadu. Dalam implementasinya, berbagai permasalahan yang terkait sains dapat diselesaikan dalam laboratorium. Laboratorium adalah tempat dimana seseorang melakukan riset ilmiah, pengukuran atau pelatihan ilmiah. Kebutuhan sarana laboratorium dari berbagai disiplin ilmu akan menjadi efektif apabila dilakukan secara terintegrasi. Salah satu pendekatan dalam pembelajaran yang terintegrasi adalah STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). STEM memungkin-kan pembelajar untuk mempelajari konsep akademik secara tepat dengan menerapkan 4 disiplin ilmu yaitu, Sains, Teknologi, Keahlian Teknik dan Matematika. Buku ini disusun sebagai salah satu tanggung jawab dan cinta kami dalam Pusat Studi Sains – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) untuk kemajuan pendidikan Indonesia. JANGAN terkejut, kalau dalam Studium General (Kuliah Umum; Latin studium, Prancis kuno general) yang pertama di Jurusan Sejarah (bahasa Arab syajara berarti terjadi, syajarah berarti pohon, syajarah an-nasab berarti pohon silsilah; bahasa Inggris history, bahasa Latin dan Yunani historia, bahasa Yunani histor atau istor berarti orang pandai) yang juga dihadiri mahasiswa tahun pertama, gambaran Anda tentang sejarah tidak sesuai dengan yang diharapkan. Kuliah semacam itu memang tidak dimaksudkan untuk memberi penjelasan tentang sejarah pada umumnya. Dosen yang memberi kuliah lebih menyesuaikan diri dengan harapan teman-temannya sendiri daripada dengan tuntutan mahasiswa baru yang masih perlu penerangan. Misalnya, dosen itu mempunyai keahlian American Studies dengan kekhususan Sejarah Hubungan Internasional, dan ia akan menjelaskan tentang sikap Amerika terhadap penyerbuan Jepang ke Cina sebelum Perang Dunia II. Amerika yang juara dalam menentang penjajahan, ternyata bersikap diam dalam soal ini. Alasan yang dikemukakan Amerika ialah Jepang tidak merupakan bahaya yang jelas dan langsung. Alasan lain ialah anggota militer Jepang yang sedikit akan terserap oleh rakyat Cina yang banyak itu. Yang ingin disampaikan dalam kuliah itu sebenarnya ialah watak diplomasi Amerika yang selalu mengutamakan kepentingan nasionalnya, meskipun dikemas dengan retorika menegakkan kemerdekaan. Kuliah itu justru meresahkan mahasiswa baru, karena sejarah yang diberikan tidak seperti yang diajarkan di sekolah. Pengalaman sehari-hari juga tidak banyak menolong. Amerika dikenal lewat bintang film, basketball dan football; Jepang dikenal lewat turisme, motor-motor Honda-Suzuki, Yamaha di jalan dan film-film cartoon; dan Cina dikenal lewat cerita silat, baterai, dan merek handuk. Rupanya pelajaran di sekolah dan pengalaman modern melalui teknologi tidak ada gunanya. Jangan terburu-buru mengambil kesimpulan! Baik pelajaran maupun pengalaman ternyata penting untuk Ilmu Sejarah. Pelajaran di sekolah setidaknya mengajarkan fakta sejarah dan pengalaman akan membuat orang lebih bijaksana, dua hal yang sangat penting bagi sejarawan.
