Students' Perception on the Benefit of Multimodal Texts Used by English Teacher at SMA Uswatun Hasanah Padang Panjang

NO. 21 301 040 72 entitled: “STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON THE BENEFIT OF MULTIMODAL TEXT USED BY ENGLISH TEACHER AT SMA USWATUN HASANAH PADANG PANJANG”, English Teaching Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and teacher Training. State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The problem of this study based on the unrevealed students’ perception on the benefits of multimodal texts used by English teachers at SMA Uswatun Hasanah Padang Panjang. For this reason, this study aims to find out and describe students' perceptions on the benefits of multimodal texts used by English teachers at SMA Uswatun Hasanah Padang Panjang registered 2024/2025 academic year. Type of this research is quantitative research, descriptive design. Respondents of this study were 11th grade senior high school students at SMA Uswatun Hasanah Padang Panjang totalling 28 students. Respondents in this study were taken using the total sampling technique, because the number of respondents was less than 100 people (Sugiyono, 2013). Data collection in this study was carried out by distributing closed-ended questionnaires with five Likert scale. The instrument used to obtain data is based on a questionnaire grid about the advantages of multimodal text according to several experts (Erza, 2022; Sari, 2022; Nurviyani et al., 2020 and Varaporn & Sitthitikul, 2019) and component of perception according to Walgito as cited in Lele (2019), which totals 100 statement items. The questionnaire had previously been validated by 3 validators with the results of the validation test of this instrument in general being 0.80 (Very High Validity). Furthermore, the reliability of the instrument was 0.969. Based on the Cronbach's Alpha score range, this reliability was categorized as very high reliability. After that, the questionnaire was distributed directly by the researcher in form of printed questionnaire. The result of data from respondents were analysed according to Sugiyono (2013), namely using descriptive quantitative by using software SPSS 30.0 and interpreted the category of perception based on Djemari, et. all as cited in Fitri (2016). The results of this study showed that the mean score of students' perceptions on the benefits of multimodal texts used by English teachers at SMA Uswatun Hasanah Padang Panjang was 380. 93, which mean it can be categorized as positive perception. When analysed based on each component of perception, in term of cognitive component the mean score was 229. 25, which mean it can be categorized as positive perception. In the term of affective component, the mean score was 79.43, which mean it can be categorized as strongly positive perception. In the term of conative component, the mean score was 72. 25, which mean it can be categorized as positive perception.
