Rana Sahira, Reg. No 2130104055, entitled: “An Analysis of Implementation of Genre Based Approach in Teaching English by Pre-Service Teachers”. English Teaching Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Islamic State University of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The problem of this research was unrevealed implementation of Genre Based Approach by Pre-Service Teachers. This research aims to analyze the implementation of the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) in teaching English by pre-service teachers. This study is motivated by the limited research that explores how pre-service teachers apply the stages of GBA during their teaching practicum in real classroom settings. This research employed a qualitative approach with a content analysis design. The data sources consisted of five recorded teaching videos from seventh-semester students of the English Teaching Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the 2024/2025 academic year who implemented GBA in their teaching practice. The researcher acted as the main instrument, supported by an observation sheet. The data were collected by analyzing teaching videos and their transcripts and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal that the pre-service teachers implemented the four stages of the Genre-Based Approach, namely Building Knowledge of the Field (BKOF), Modeling of the Text (MOT), Joint Construction of the Text (JCOT), and Independent Construction of the Text (ICOT). However, the implementation was not fully optimal, as some stages were applied inconsistently, particularly the JCOT and ICOT stages. These findings indicate that although pre-service teachers have understood the basic concept of GBA, they still require further guidance and training to effectively implement all stages of the Genre-Based Approach in English language teaching.
