Abstrak
This research is motivated by the phenomenon that not yet revealed about students’ perception on the advantages of using AI QuillBot in their English learning. The purpose of this study is to describe students' perceptions of the benefits of using QuillBot in learning English at the English teaching Department of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. This research is a descriptive qualitative research conducted at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The informants of this study amounted to 39 informant education students consisting of 2 students in class 2024, 6 students in class 2023, 18 students in class 2022, and 13 students in class 2021 selected using purposive sampling technique. In this study, the researcher is the key instrument. The supporting instruments in this research are interview guidelines, audio recordings, and documentation. Furthermore, in analyzing the data, researchers used the theory of Miles and Huberman (2010), namely by reducing, presenting, verifying data, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students have 7 perceptions about the use of QuillBot in English learning, perceptions by features namely QuillBot itself, parphraser, Grammar Checker, AI Detector, Translator and Summarizer. for the first perception according to the QuillBot itself there are six advantageous such as Adjust vocabulary with context, Find Synonym in Writing, Enrich Vocabulary, Making Writing Project Looks Humans Being, has complete features that help in writing, Saving Timer. The second perception on the paraphraser, it has five advantageous, there are Simplify Paragraph for Reading Comprehensive, Improve Paraphrasing Skill, Paraphrase in Academic Language, Avoiding Plagiarism, Reducing Plagiarism. The third perception is Grammar Checker, this feature helps students in identify Error in Words while doing writing project and making scripts for speaking practice, and the fourth perception is AI Detector, this feature help students in Check AI’s Detection in their projects. The fifth is Translator this feature helps students to translate sentences or paragraph with better accuracy that others platform. And the last perception is Summarizer, this feature help students to simplify paragraph for reading comprehension and help to make the long paragraph into shorter by this feature to help them in make a summarise. In conclusion, QuillBot is highly beneficial for students in learning English, offering a range of features that enhance their reading, writing, and speaking skills. Students find QuillBot to be a valuable tool that significantly supports their English learning process.
