Abstrak
The purpose of this study is to describe the contributing factors on difficulties experienced by students in presenting oral presentations on the topic of presenting oral research reports in the Speaking for Academic course. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The informant of this research were English Teaching Department students of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar for the academic year 2023/2024 totaling 7 people who have difficulty making oral presentations in the topic of presenting oral research reports in the Speaking for Academic course determined by purposive sampling techniques. In this study, researcher functioned as a key instrument in data collection, assisted by supporting instruments in the form of interview guidelines, voice recorders and camera for documentation. To test the validity of the data, researcher conducted prolonged engagement. Furthermore, to analyze the data, researcher use the theory of Miles and Huberman (1994), namely by reducing data, presenting data, verifying data and drawing conclusions. The results showed the contributing factors on difficulties experienced by students in making oral presentations in the Speaking for Academic Purposes Subject. These difficulties are: 1) Difficulties in understanding the topic, 2) Psychological Problem, 3) Linguistic Problem (Grammar Vocabulary, Pronunciation) and 4) Teacher Expectation.
