Abstrak
RAHMAWATI, 16 301 04 049, thesis title "ANALYSIS OF FUNCTION OF CODE SWITCHING IN TEACHER TALK AT STATE INSTITUTE FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES IN BATUSANGKAR " English Department, Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies, Batusangkar, 2020. The problem in this research was the transfer of language from English to Indonesian which is found in the teaching and learning process in the classroom. This study aimed to analyze or discover the function of language transfer used by lecturers in teaching English in the classroom. This research used descriptive qualitative method using case study design. The key instrument in this study was the researcher herself. In this study the instrument used the interview guidelines and the participants in this study were lecturers who taught the interpretation class. In collecting data, researchers conducted documentation study of the learning process in class interpretation. To test the validity of the data obtained from the documentation study, researchers used triangulation by comparing the data obtained from the documentation study and the result of interviews. The results of the study showed that the function of code switching in teaching and learning process in the classroom used 7 code switching functions, namely Topic Switch, Affective Function, Repetitive Function, Methodological Function, Social Function, Directive Function, and Poetic Function. The researcher found that the most widely used code switching used by lecturers teaching interpretation was the Repetitive Function and the least was the Poetic Function.
