GRAMMATICAL ERRORS OF AUXILIARY VERBS FOUND IN STUDENTS’ PERSUASIVE SPEECH” (A Study of the Fourth Semester Students of English Department of IAIN Batusangkar Registered in 2015/2016 Academic Year)

Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah belum terungkapnya tipe-tipe grammatical errors dalam penggunaan auxiliary verbs oleh mahasiswa semester ke empat Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Batusangkar tahun akademik 2015/2016 di dalam penampilan pidato persuasif mereka pada Ujian Akhir Semester (UAS). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tipe-tipe grammatical errors dalam penggunaan auxiliary verbs dan mendeskripsikan persentase grammatical errors dalam penggunaan auxiliary verbs yang ditemukan di dalam penampilan pidato persuasif mereka. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan desain penelitian Cross-Sectional Survey. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini yaitu hasil rekaman video penampilan pidato mahasiswa semester ke empat Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris pada Ujian Akhir Semester (UAS) mereka pada mata kuliah Speaking IV yang ditranskripsikan. Jumlah pidato yang diteliti dalam penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 37 pidato. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan beberapa langkah, yaitunya pertama, identifikasi dengan cara menggarisbawahi setiap grammatical errors yang ditemukan di dalam pidato persuasif mahasiswa, kemudian memberikan kode di bawah garis tersebut sesuai dengan tipe-tipe kesalahannya. Kedua, deskripsi dengan cara mengklasifikasikan grammatical errors ke dalam tabel. Ketiga, menerangkan grammatical errors yang ditemukan pada pidato persuasif mahasiswa. Langkah selanjutnya yaitu mempersentasekan jumlah grammatical errors yang ditemukan dalam pidato persuasif mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga tipe grammatical errors dalam penggunaan auxiliary verbs yang ditemukan dalam pidato persuasif mahasiswa semester ke empat Jurusan Tadris Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Batusangkar tahun akademik 2015/2016. yaitu addition of auxiliary verb, omission of auxiliary verb, dan wrong form of auxiliary verb. Addition of auxiliary verb “be” terdapat 49 kesalahan dengan persentase 33%, omission of auxiliary verb”be” terdapat 36 kesalahan dengan persentase 24%, omission of auxiliary verb”do/does/did” terdapat 14 kesalahan dengan persentase 9%, omission of auxiliary verb”have/has/had” terdapat 6 kesalahan dengan persentase 4%, dan wrong form of auxiliary verb “be” terdapat 21 kesalahan dengan persentase 14%, wrong form of auxiliary verb “do/does/did” terdapat 6 kesalahan dengan persentase 4%, wrong form of auxiliary verb “have/has/had” terdapat 17 kesalahan dengan persentase 12%,
