WANDA ANUGRAH, Reg. Num. 22 301 040 42, entitled: “STUDENT TEACHERS' DIFFICULTIES IN PREPARING INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA FOR MICROTEACHING CLASS (A Study of Sixth Semester Students of English Teaching Department of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar Registered in 2025/2026 Academic Year).” English Teaching Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar, 2026. The problem found in the Microteaching class showed that student teachers tended to rely mainly on PowerPoint, with limited use of other types of instructional media. Some media also showed limited variation and attractiveness and were not fully aligned with the intended learning objectives. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the difficulties experienced by student teachers in preparing instructional media for the Microteaching class. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. The participants were sixth-semester students of the English Teaching Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar registered in the 2025/2026 academic year who had taken the Microteaching course and experienced difficulties in preparing instructional media. The participants were selected using purposive sampling based on the research criteria. Based on the difficulties identified through the preliminary screening, the researcher distributed a questionnaire through Google Forms to identify students who met the research criteria. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings revealed five major difficulties experienced by student teachers in preparing instructional media: (1) difficulty in aligning instructional media with learning objectives, (2) difficulty in selecting instructional media, (3) difficulty in designing instructional media, (4) limited time for media preparation, and (5) limited knowledge and experience in instructional media. The findings indicate that preparing instructional media requires not only technical skills but also pedagogical understanding, design skills, time management, and sufficient knowledge and experience.
