No: 2230104029, entitled: “THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS' READING HABIT AND VOCABULARY MASTERY (A STUDY OF SIXTH SEMESTER ENGLISH STUDENTSAT UIN MAHMUD YUNUS BATUSANGKAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026)”, English Teaching Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. This study was motivated by the limited reading habits among students, particularly their engagement with English texts, which may affect their knowledgement to new vocabulary. Although regular reading provides opportunities for students to encounter vocabulary in meaningful contexts, students‟ reading habits and vocabulary mastery may vary. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether there was a significant correlation between students‟ reading habits and vocabulary mastery among sixth-semester students of the English Education Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the Academic Year 2025/2026. The type of this research is quantitative research method with a correlational design. The population consisted of students of the English Education Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the Academic Year 2025/2026. Using Cluster Random Sampling, the sixth-semester group was selected as the sample cluster, and consisting of 30 students. Data were collected through a reading habit questionnaire and a vocabulary mastery test. The validation result of the reading habit questionnaire was categorized as moderate, with a coefficient of 0.76, while the vocabulary mastery test was categorized as moderate, with a coefficient of 0.675. The reliability coefficients of the respective instruments were 0.709 and 0.757, both of which were categorized as having high reliability. The collected data were analyzed descriptively and by Spearman Rank Correlation using SPSS 22. Descriptive analysis showed that the mean reading habit score of students was 84.50, indicating a moderate level of reading habit, while the mean score of vocabulary mastery was 84.43, indicating relatively good vocabulary mastery. The result of the Spearman Rank Correlation analysis revealed a correlation coefficient of 0.012 with significance value of 0.952 (p > 0.05), indicating a very weak positive correlation that was not statistically significant between students’ reading habit and vocabulary mastery. Based on the results of the study, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected, while the null hypothesis (H₀) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was no significant correlation between students' reading habit and vocabulary mastery among the sixth-semester students of the English Education Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh terbatasnya kebiasaan membaca mahasiswa dalam membaca teks berbahasa Inggris yang dapat memengaruhi pemahaman terhadap kosakata baru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara kebiasaan membaca dan penguasaan kosakata mahasiswa Semester 6 Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar Tahun Akademik 2025/2026. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. Sampel adalah mahasiswa semester enam dengan menggunakan teknik Cluster Random Sampling, yang terdiri dari 30 mahasiswa aktif. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner kebiasaan membaca dan tes penguasaan kosakata. Hasil validasi terhadap angket kebiasaan membaca adalah pada kategori sedang dengan koefisien sebesar 0,76, sementara untuk tes penguasaan kosakata hasil validasi adalah pada kategori sedang dengan koefisien 0,675. Hasil reliabilitas masing-masing instrumen adalah 0,709 dan 0,757, yang keduanya termasuk dalam kategori reliabilitas tinggi. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan uji Korelasi Peringkat Spearman Rank Correlation dengan bantuan program SPSS versi 22. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor kebiasaan membaca mahasiswa adalah 84,50, yang menunjukkan tingkat kebiasaan membaca pada kategori sedang, sedangkan rata-rata skor penguasaan kosakata adalah 84,43, yang menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki penguasaan kosakata yang relatif baik. Hasil analisis Korelasi Peringkat Spearman menunjukkan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0.012 dengan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,952 (p > 0,05), yang menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang sangat lemah dan tidak signifikan secara statistik antara kebiasaan membaca mahasiswa dengan penguasaan kosakata mereka. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, hipotesis alternatif (Ha) ditolak dan hipotesis nol (H₀) diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara kebiasaan membaca mahasiswa dan penguasaan kosakata pada mahasiswa semester enam Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar.
