Abstrak
JUNIA ALJAZIRA LAJSEMA DERZA, Reg.Num. 22 301 040 18, entitled: “EXPLORING THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY BY ENGLISH STUDENTS IN MICROTEACHING CLASS (A Study of the Sixth Semester Students of English Teaching Department of UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar Registered in 2024/2025 Academic Year)”, English Teaching Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar 2026. The phenomenon found in this study shows that students used various technologies in Microteaching activities for different teaching-related purposes. However, the types of technology used, the purposes of their use, and the predominantly used technology need to be described more deeply. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the types of technology used by students, the purposes of technology use, and the predominantly used technology in the Microteaching class at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. This study employed a qualitative descriptive research design. The participants were selected purposively from sixth-semester students of the English Teaching Department who had taken the Microteaching course. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings showed that students used various technologies, including Microsoft Word, Google Documents, Grammarly, Canva, YouTube, Wordwall, Kahoot, Pinterest, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude AI, DeepSeek, and Scholar GPT. These technologies were used to make tasks easier, generate ideas, create instructional media, develop teaching modules, and support teaching preparation. Among the technologies identified, ChatGPT and Canva were predominantly used because they supported the development of teaching ideas and the creation of instructional media. The findings indicate that students integrated various technologies according to their Microteaching needs, with ChatGPT and Canva playing the most prominent roles in their teaching preparation.
