ANNISA ANDIRA PUTRI, Reg. No. 1930104010. Thesis title: “Student’s Errors in Pronouncing English Consonant Silent Letters”. English Teaching Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The purpose of this study was to find out the students' errors in pronouncing English consonantsilent letters words in fourth semester students of English Teaching Department at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar in the academic year 2024/2025. This research used a quantitative descriptive approach. The sample of this research was 37 students of the English Teaching Department in the 2024/2025 academic year. The sample was selected from the entire population. In collecting data, the researcher used a pronunciation test as the research instrument. The test consisted of 20 words that contained silent letter sounds. The researcher recorded the students’ voices and analyzed the recordings. Data analysis was done by classifying the data, evaluating the data, explaining the data, then calculating the results by using the percentage formula. The results showed that the most common errors in students' pronunciation were in the sound /b/ (98.64%). The second highest percentage, at 91.67%, was for the sound /h/. The next highest percentage was in the sound /l/ (86.49%). Next, the sound /t/ (58.10%). The sound /g/ had 54.05%, while the sound /w/ had 74.32% and sound /p/ had 74.32%. There were also errors in the sound /u/ (44.60%). A few errors appeared in the sound /e/ (12.16%). Furthermore, there were errors in the sound /k/ (8.10%). Based on the analysis, the types of errors made by the students included addition errors (pronouncing letters that should be silent, such as /k/ in knife), misformation errors (producing incorrect sounds), and interference errors influenced by the students’ first language. These findings indicate that most students still face difficulties in pronouncing silent letters correctly, mainly because of the difference between English and Indonesian orthography and pronunciation rules.
