ABSTRACT FITRA MURNI AR, NIM. 212012014. Thesis title: "Strategy of the Principal of SMAN 1 Sumatera Barat in Building Students Academic Achievement". Islamic Education Management Program, Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar State Islamic University (UIN) Postgraduate Program. The phenomenon in this research at SMAN 1 Sumatera Barat was that the students could build academic achievements. It was extraordinary that these achievements have been achieved from regional to international level, even though this school has only been established for 13 years. The type of the research used was qualitative research with a case study design. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Sumatera Barat located at Jalan Syekh Ibrahim Musa, Sigando, Padang Panjang Timur, Padang Panjang, Sumatera Barat. This research was carried out for two months from May to June 2024. The research subjects was school principal. Then, the data sources in this research consisted of the vice principal for student affairs, vice principal for curriculum, subject teachers, and students. The research instruments used consist of main instruments and supporting instruments. The main instrument was the researcher himself, while the supporting instruments were interview guides, recording equipment, and field notes. The data collection technique used was purposive sampling technique, by participating in observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique in this research used the Miles and Huberman model which consisted of data collection, data presentation, as well as drawing conclusions and data verification. The techniques used to ensure the validity of the data are source triangulation and method triangulation. Data management was carried out qualitatively, then described based on phenomena that occur in the field using effective sentences. The results of the research showed that the strategy of the Principal of SMAN 1 Sumatera Barat in building academic achievement was carried out through 1) The principal's planning strategy for building academic achievement, such as holding meetings, forming teams, carrying out comparative study, collaborating; 2) The principal's implementation strategy in building academic achievement, such as recruiting the students for the Olympic class, selecting the students, coaching the students, providing motivation to the students, and giving appreciation to the students; 3) The principal's evaluation strategy in building academic achievement by holding monthly meetings regarding student progress in the Olympic class and conducting evaluations the students every time after finishing participating in the Olympic competition.
