Abstrak
Abstract: The problem discussed in this study is student anxiety when writing a quantitative research proposal. This study aims to find the percentage and average level of writing anxiety in writing quantitative research proposals for 4th semester students of the English Department of Tadris. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The population in this study was 56 students in the fourth semester of the English Department of Tadris, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar State Islamic University who took the Quantitative for ELT course. In this study, researchers took data using a trial technique used. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire distributed using a google form containing statements about students' writing anxiety in making research proposals. The researcher used total sampling, because there were less than 100 respondents, so 56 people were directly selected as the sample. The total questionnaires in this study were 44 items. The questionnaire was validated using SPSS 28.0 software. The validity results were calculated by comparing r-count and r-table. The results of the validity showed that all 44 questionnaire items in the study were declared valid, because the r-count was greater than the r-table, which was 0.254. Reliability was calculated using SPSS 28.0 software with the Alpha Croncbach method. The reliability result is 0.955 in the reliable category. The results showed that of the 3 indicators of writing anxiety in making research proposals, namely cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety, and avoidance, there was 1 indicator that had a high percentage level and also the average of each indicator of writing anxiety. The indicator is cognitive anxiety which has an average of 36,178 and the highest percentage is 64.3% on positive items and 64.3% on negative items. From these results, it can be concluded that students feel nervous and worried if they write a quantitative research proposal in English and are afraid of getting a bad score from the quantitative research proposal they made.
