Students' Perception on Using ChatGPT in Preparing Materials for Presentation in Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) Course

State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The problem of this study based on the increasing use of ChatGPT in higher education has encouraged students to utilize it as a learning tool, particularly in preparing presentation materials. However, students may have different perceptions regarding its usefulness, effectiveness, and challenges. So that, the unrevealed students’ perception on using ChatGPT in preparing materials for presentations in the MALL course. This study aimed to find out students' perceptions of using ChatGPT in preparing materials for presentations in the Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) course. Type of this research was quantitative research, descriptive design. Respondents of this study were eighth-semester students, who had successfully completed MALL course totalling 43 students. The respondents in this study were taken using the total sampling technique, because the number of respondents was less than 100 people. Data collection in this study was carried out by distributing closed-ended questionnaires with five Likert scale. The instrument used to obtain data is based on a questionnaire grid about the advantages of ChatGPT according to several experts (Kasneci et al, 2023; Zhai, 2023; Lo, 2023; Tlili et al, 2023; Rahman & Watanobe, 2023; Dwivedi et al, 2023; and Baidoo-Anu, D., & Owusu Ansah, L., 2023) and component of perception according to Lele (2019), which totals 42 statement items. The researcher employed a used trial to examine the validity and reliability of the research instrument. The questionnaire was administered only once to the respondents because the same respondents were used both for the instrument testing and the actual data collection. After the responses were collected, the validity of each questionnaire item was analyzed using the SPSS. All items were retained and analyzed in this study. The instrument reliability coefficient was 0,972. Based on the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient range, this value was categorized as vry high reliability, indicating that the instrument was appropriate for use as a data collection tool. The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive statistics with the assistence of SPSS version 26. The results of this study showed that the mean score of students’ perception on using ChatGPT in preparing materials for presentation in MALL course was 167.14, which mean it can be categorized as positive perception. When analysed based on each component of perception, in term of cognitive component the mean score was 56.23, which mean it can be categorized as strongly positive perception. In the term of affective component, the mean score was 56.07, which mean it can be categorized as strongly positive perception. In the term of conative component, the mean score was 54.84, which mean it can be categorized as positive perception.
