Iportal Palapes Laut UMP
The Iportal Palapes Laut UMP is developed for Palapes Laut UMP organization usage and iportal is stands for information portal and it is a web based application. The main purpose of this system is to assist top management and staff officer of Palapes Laut UMP in order for them to manage the training record of the trainee (officer cadet). This system consists of four modules. Firstly module on Trainee and Staff Profile, Attendance of the Trainee, Calculation of Allowances and Short Messaging System(SMS) to the trainee mobile phone. The system is developed using SDLC methodology. A prototype was drafted and shown to the user before the coding started. Once the user agreed with the prototype, then the development work commenced. The system used PHP language, Dreamweaver as the interface design, MySQL as the database, and Xampp as the integration tools. For future usage, this system is highly recommended to be used by others Palapes Laut organization such as Palapes Laut UITM, Palapes Laut UMT, Palapes Laut UUM, Palapes Laut UPM and Palapes Laut USM.
The Impacts of Culture and Corporate Governance on the Performance of Large Listed Companies in Malaysia
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of culture and corporate governance on the performance of large listed companies in Malaysia. This study classifies culture into two perspectives i.e. ethnicity and management characteristics. Ethnicity is chosen because it may explain the impact of a particular racial or cultural group on firm performance. As for management characteristics, directors' characteristics such as age, education level, and tenure may explain their behaviours, attitudes, and choices, which in turn may affect firm performance. Board independence (independent non-executive directors), cross directorship, and board size are variables representing corporate governance. From the final sample of 89 companies, this study gathered information from annual reports for the year 2009. From the analysis, this study found that ethnicity does not have a significant impact on firm performance. As for management characteristics, older directors and directors with the appropriate level of education and skills would indirectly improve firm performance. For Malay-majority boards, board independence and large board size may contribute to a favourable firm performance. On the contrary, for Chinesemajority boards, all independent variables representing corporate governance related negatively with firm performance. Further, the relationship between board independence and firm performance (ROA and ROE) are negative and significant at 10% and 5% respectively. These results may be interpreted that too much emphasis on the role of independent directors may hinder board efficiency and effectiveness. The findings from this study may contribute to the accounting literature, research methodology and industry. Further, findings of this study may be useful for the investors in their decision-making.

Service Recovery in the Higher Education
A lot of emphasis has been placed on the higher education in Malaysia due to its contribution to the country's socio-economic growth. The higher education institutions are often overlooked as part of the service industry. As the provider of education, the higher education institutions involve high human interaction between the administrative staff and the customers; which are the students. As such, high level of service encounters are bound to lead to either the success or failure of these institutions. Failure to manage service delivery often calls for swift recovery actions by the service provider to regain customers' confidence. Thus, by better understanding the customers' satisfaction towards the service recovery efforts, universities can develop the right service recovery strategies.
