ANNISA FITRIA NINGSIH, Reg. Num.2230104003 entitled: "FACTORS CAUSING STUDENTS' LACK OF CONFIDENCE DURING MICROTEACHING PRACTICES" (A Descriptive Qualitative Study of English Language Teaching Department Students at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar), English Teaching Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar, 2026. The problem of this research is that the factors causing students' lack of confidence during Microteaching practices have not yet been clearly identified. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the factors causing students' lack of confidence during Microteaching practices among English Language Teaching Department students. This study employed a qualitative descriptive research design. The participants were eight English Language Teaching Department students at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar who had completed the Microteaching course. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles and Huberman, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings revealed that students' lack of confidence during Microteaching practices was influenced by three main factors: psychological factors, social factors, and situational factors. Psychological factors, particularly self-doubt, emerged as the most dominant factor affecting students' confidence. Social factors were reflected mainly through peer judgment, while situational factors consisted of performance pressure and being observed and evaluated during teaching performances. The findings also showed that these factors were closely interconnected and collectively influenced students' confidence throughout the Microteaching process. Understanding these factors may contribute to developing supportive learning environments and strategies that help pre-service teachers build confidence during teaching practice.
